The way we work is changing, and the importance of a space in which to work, collaborate, and share ideas is as important as ever.

Today you’ll find the building to be a hub or “capitol” for El Paso professionals. The building’s unique design allows us to bridge the public and private domain through the semi-open format, city views, terrace, and amenities.

Working Capitol is the only El Paso co-working space with dedicated parking, 24/7 access, an on-site cafe and taqueria, affordable plans, flexible passes and a focus on detail and design. We know we’re the preeminent office space in El Paso, whether you’re looking for on-demand office or conference room space, or something a little more permanent. You’ll appreciate the updated amenities, including a bilingual receptionist, complimentary coffee, unlimited Wi-Fi, on-demand IT support, and more.

You’ll find numerous industries represented by the professionals who call Working Capitol “their office”, including real estate, construction, technology, law, creative and more.

A LOOK BACK

311 Montana Ave

Originally built in the “roaring twenties”, the building’s fortunes rose and fell with the city’s. Its history began as an auto showcase, displaying a wide variety of vehicles, including Studebakers and others. The “boom” of the 1940’s and 1960’s brought both new industries and new layers to the building which would subsequently be revealed and peeled back in renovation. Most recently, the building served as El Paso’s main international furniture import emporium before becoming what is now Working Capitol.

The confluence of a vision and a building

Chris Esper, founder of Working Capitol, was in his final year of his Master of Architecture program at Harvard University when he first conceptualized a work space like Working Capitol. He formalized the concept and made it his master’s thesis. Chris eventually made his dream reality with his colleagues at Root Architects when he returned to his hometown and found the ideal property on the corner of Montana and Kansas.

In determining how this century old, commercial building could host a modern, work environment, Root Architects had to first consider how work had changed over the past decade; understanding that 1 in 4 American adults were working remotely–a number that is projected to increase significantly each year.

Root Architects then combined their vision and style with the space at 311 Montana Ave. The result was a multidimensional, shared office space with 5 unique types of office environments (shared work table and semi-private desks in a common lounge, 2 person, private offices and 6 person, private office suites. For those who primarily work from home but who need a business address and a space to meet with clients, there is the virtual office plan).

The style of design, which the architects coined as “Southwest Deco,” mixes clean lines and contours with the texture and color of classic southwestern materials native to the structure. You’ll notice these in the fine details of the tabletops, railings, windows and doors; and the textures of the walls and floors. The open plan capitalizes significantly on natural lighting from the oversize windows, which makes the space even more pleasant and enjoyable by its members.

Those who work here are proud to share in a mixed community of common minded professionals. We feel fortunate to have discovered this distinguished space and given it new life.
